53 Cambodian Illegal Border Hoppers Arrested in Thailand

Banteay Meanchey: Thai paramilitary border patrol police have arrested 53 Cambodians who illegally crossed the border into Thailand on Monday in Aranya district, Thailand’s Sa Keo province.

According to the information from the 815th Border Guard Battalion, among those people arrested, 25 of them were women. The same source has confirmed that the illegal border hoppers, will be detained, before they will be sent to the Klong Namsai Police Inspectorate, where the Police will send them to the Aranyaprathet District Immigration Police to prepare for their return to Cambodia.

More than 400 cases of illegal border crossings between Cambodia and Thailand in ten months of 2021.More than 135 cases involved unlawful transportation of people, human trafficking for employment, across the border to Thailand. In total, authorities arrested more than 300 people.

Despite the crowds of workers continually returning some local people are still trying to leave for Thailand, convinced that they will somehow fare better than those who gave up and came home in recent weeks.
